Carbon Spinnaker poles are the weapon of choice in many classes now, the light weight coupled with excellent strength characteristics have made it most sailors preferred form of equipment.
However, as we have all seen, the carbon pole is weak in one very important area. Most fail at the point where the pole can meet the forestay and, due to the ‘wound’ nature of the carbon layup, most poles do not have any extra strengthening in this area.
This is where the new Composite Craft tapered poles are superior.
Rather than being wound, the poles are moulded using a female mould and pre-preg carbon sheets, to ensure uniformity of resin through the layup. This is then compacted using a bladder at 2 bar. The type of Carbon used is not the stiffest available but it shows high tenacity and will prove to be very durable and, therefore, good value for money.
